PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT GRANT

DESCRIPTION

The grant provides up to $500 for eligible STYP members to help offset the costs associated with activities that further professional development. The scholarship is intended to assist eligible STYP members to develop their full professional potential and to prepare for advancement. Funding may be provided to enhance teaching, research capabilities, professional knowledge, and skills. 

Examples of projects or activities contributing to professional development include: 

  • Conference participation or attendance
  • Preparation of material for publication
  • Grant proposal development
  • Professional exam fees
  • Licensing/certification fees

AVAILABLE FUNDING

The total available funding has been set to $2,000 for 2024. Full funding for any project or activity is not guaranteed. Applications that demonstrate a strong connection to the recipient’s career advancement and professional development or growth will be ranked higher and may receive no more than $500. Depending on the number of applicants, however, funding may be dispersed more widely.

The first funding opportunity is for projects and activities that occurred in the first half of the year (between January 1, 2024 and June 30, 2024).

The second funding opportunity is available for projects and activities that occurred in the second half of the year (between July 1, 2024 and December 31, 2024).

ELIGIBILITY

Only applicants that have paid their membership dues for the year in which the project or activity occurred are eligible. 

APPLICATION PROCESS

  1. Complete the online application form
  • Applicants will automatically receive a copy of their form submission upon completion. 

2. Enclose an up-to-date CV/résumé

  • The last page in the application form has an option for uploading a PDF copy of the applicant’s CV/resume

3. Enclose copies of original receipts when submitting form.

  • The application form will have an option for you to upload a PDF copy/image of your original receipts.

Alternatively, the applicant can email supplemental materials via email to grant@styp.org should they experience issues uploading documents to our form.

SELECTION PROCESS

Applications will be reviewed by the STYP Professional Development Grant Committee–which is composed of board members only. 

Grants are awarded on a competitive basis according to funds available in a given fiscal year. Preference will not be given to board members or any of its organizational partners. Only applications that demonstrate a strong connection to the recipient’s career advancement and professional development or growth will receive the most merit for up to $500 in funding. 

After thorough evaluation and prioritization, the recommendations of the STYP Professional Development Grant Committee will be subject to final approval by the STYP president. 

To ensure a fair and objective selection process, the STYP Professional Grant Committee will not comment on its deliberations. Furthermore, STYP is unable to provide written or oral evaluations of any pending application. No provisions exist for reconsideration of grant awards after applicants have been notified of their application status. 

REGULATIONS

Examples of projects or activities contributing to professional development can include travel to conferences, preparation of material for publication, grant proposal development, and exam fees. 

The grant is NOT appropriate for: 

  • Purchase of equipment
  • Indirect expenses (e.g., those paid by someone other than the applicant)

NOTIFICATION PROCESS

Grant recipients will be notified by email at the end of the corresponding award cycle (i.e., end of July or end of January). They will complete a release form attesting that the project or activity has not been covered through other means. 

Recipients will be recognized at a forthcoming STYP event, presented with a check, and featured on STYP’s communication platforms (i.e., social media, web page, newsletter, etc.)

Q> What does the grant not cover?

A> Funding may not be awarded to pay for equipment or expenses incurred by someone other than the applicant. 

Q> Can I submit my application for an artistic or creative endeavor? 

A> While we support artistic and creative endeavors, we cannot currently reimburse members for projects or activities of that nature. 

Q> Can I submit my application for the YP Summit?

A> Yes. We encourage submissions that count towards attendance at the YP Summit.
